  • Capital Health
    Information is available on topics such as general health for seniors [79 health categories], keeping fit, eating to stay healthy, and living safely at home. Offers public health advisories [flu info, etc.]

    The first point of contact is to call Community Care Access (known formerly as Information and Intake) at (780) 496-1300. Community Care Access provides telephone screening and needs assessment 24 hours
    a day, seven days a week.

Provincial

  • Alberta Aids to Daily Living — (AADL)
    AADL helps provide authorized basic medical equipment and supplies to people with a chronic disability or illness and those who are terminally ill. The intent is to help people function more independently in a home or home-like setting.
  • Alberta Health Care
    Effective October 2004, all seniors [age 65 and over], regardless of income are exempt from paying Alberta Health Care Insurance premiums.

  • Special Needs Assistance for Seniors
    The Special Needs Assistance for Seniors program is based on income and provides a lump-sum cash payment to eligible lower-income seniors. Under this program, seniors who are facing financial difficulty in paying extraordinary, one-time expenses and who have no other resources to draw on can apply for financial assistance. The amount funded depends on income level and the type of expense.

Dental [Provincial]

  • Dental Plan $5,000
    The Dental Assistance for Seniors program is based on income and provides low- to moderate-income seniors with financial assistance for basic dental services that help maintain a reasonable level of dental health. The program provides up to $5,000 of coverage per person every five years.

    To be eligible for the Dental Assistance for Seniors program you must be 65 years of age or older and have an income level within the limits allowed by the program. You must have resided in Alberta at least three months immediately before applying. You must also be a Canadian citizen, or have been admitted into Canada for permanent residence (landed immigrant).

Optical [Provincial]

  • Optical Assistance
    The Optical Assistance for Seniors program is based on income and is for low- to moderate-income Albertans, aged 65 or older. The program contributes up to $230 every three years for the purchase of prescription eyeglasses.

    To be eligible for the Optical Assistance for Seniors program you must be 65 years of age or older and have an income level within the limits allowed by the program. You must have resided in Alberta at least three months immediately before applying. You must also be a Canadian citizen, or have been admitted into Canada for permanent residence (landed immigrant).

Pharmaceutical [Provincial]

  • Prescription Drug Coverage [Blue Cross]
    Premium-free coverage for Seniors is available to all Albertans 65 years of age and older and their dependents. This coverage is also available to all recipients of the Alberta Widows' Pension and their dependents.
