The severe earthquake in Sichuan, China caused countless fatalities and injuries, with the loss of tens of thousands of our fellow countrymen¡¯s precious lives. The disaster raised the concern of the whole world and many organizations responded one by one with fundraising activities. Although the ASSIST Community Services Centre is located in Canada, our hearts are also tied to China. All our staff members took part in fundraising together with our volunteers at restaurants in different parts of Edmonton on the 17th and 18th of May.
Those who participated in this activity were not limited to the Centre¡¯s staff and volunteers, but also included many warm-hearted Edmontonians. While preparing for and carrying out the fundraising activity, our staff and volunteers worked seamlessly together with the common goal of offering what meager strength we have to help our fellow countrymen. As the volunteer coordinator, I am honored to be involved in the effort with everybody else. My colleagues and volunteers make me feel proud to be one of them! Although this grievous experience may leave a long scar in the history of China, we as a nation will rise in strength to surpass the difficulties that we face. As long as we can join forces and work as a whole, happiness will surely return soon!
