2009 ASSIST Annual General Meeting Held
The 2009 Annual General Meeting of ASSIST Community Services Centre was successfully held on June 19 at the Grand Hall of the Centre. Over 80 participants, including Board of Directors, members, staff, guests and representatives from federal, provincial, city government and other community partners attended the meeting.
The meeting was started with the welcoming speech and an introduction of the guests by Wing Choy, Board of Director. A vote of thanks was then given to all funding agencies, community partners, members as well as the public for their generous support to the Centre.
The president of the Board, Allan Mah, gave his speech in the AGM. He expressed his sincere thanks to the staff and volunteers for their hard work and dedications in the past year. He especially welcomed Perry Twaits to be the Executive Director of the Centre. As Perry has over 30 years of management and financial experience, it is believed that under his leadership, ASSIST will make progress in many needed areas. Then, he reviewed the success and accomplishments in the ASSIST’s 32-year history, which were manifested in the significant increase in the number of attendance at most programs, including our integrated immigrant services, language courses and family programs. He stressed that ASSIST would always look back and review our decisions and improve our services in order to better off the Chinese community, especially to give help, hope and support to the most needed.
Other agenda items, including Financial Report, Amendment of Bylaws, Appointment of Auditor for Year 2009-2010 and Nomination Committee Report and Election, were all approved. Bluewater Accounting & Tax Planning Centre will be the auditor of ASSIST in the year 2009-2010. Until the next AGM in 2009, the Board of Directors will consist of:
